About Me
I graduated from Minnesota State University - Mankato (MSUM) with a Master of Science in Professional School Counseling in 1996 and have added coursework in the past two years (2023-2024) for Clinical Mental Health Counseling to become a Licensed Professional Counselor through MSUM, the University of Wisconsin - Stout, and the University of Wisconsin - Superior. During my ten years as a school counselor, I was privileged to work with youth and families of all school ages from many different backgrounds and with a variety of social, emotional, academic, and occupational issues.
Treatment Approach
Genuineness, empathy, and unconditional positive regard are at the heart of my person-centered and strength-based approach. In addition, I use an eclectic and integrative approach utilizing evidence-based techniques, as well as common factors models.
I believe a counselor is more than just the skills we learn. It is someone who has compassion and genuine empathy. It is someone who wants to continue to learn, grow, and is willing to self-reflect… someone who is listening to not only teach, but also to learn and practice mindfulness and thoughtfulness… someone who has humility, so they can admit when they do not know something, but are willing to learn.
At some moment in life, I believe every person might need a little help. This is why I prefer to think of therapy as support and hope that things can be different. It is a process where individuals can be empowered to accomplish their goals and dreams in a genuine, trusting, and caring environment. I have seen the changes people can make when they just have someone to believe in them, to talk with them, to support them. Bring your open heart, renew your hope, and find your inner strength to pursue your dreams and reach your full potential.
I have worked with individuals with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, bullying, ADHD, suicide/crisis intervention, conflict mediation, communication skills, positive self-talk, obesity, parenting, family change, setting goals, and career and life planning.
